Palliative Care
Palliative Care
Bringing dignity to end-of-life care with compounding for hospice/palliative care in the Greater Sudbury Area
The goal of hospice and palliative care is to relieve pain and give patients the best quality of life possible for their final months and days. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to hospice care, as all patients are unique and respond to treatments in different ways.
The end stages of terminal illness are hard for both the patient and those who love them. Our compounding team works hard to play an active role in hospice care and want to help patients live out their final days with dignity and free of pain.
Pharmacy compounding for hospice care allows us to prepare unique and customized medications to treat the most common symptoms experienced at the end of life. Healthcare providers work closely with us to come up with a medication regimen that is tailored to each individual’s needs.
One of the biggest issues that require treatment during palliative care is the pain management. Hospice pain care is often needed 24 hours a day. We can assist in preparing medications that can address both acute and chronic pain. We can work with the medical provider to achieve the exact dosage necessary for each specific patient.
Another common issue among hospice patients is traditional dosage forms. Many patients have problems with nausea and vomiting or are unable to swallow pills.
For these patients, we have alternatives which may include:
- Topical medications applied on the skin (gels, lotions, creams, ointments, etc.…)
- Flavored lozenges
- Sprays
- Suppositories/Rectal and vaginal gels
- Oral liquids
- Lollipops
- Mounthwash/Rinses
- G-tube suspensions
We are committed to helping make hospice and palliative care a calm, loving, and peaceful time for the patient and the family. By working with medical providers, we can help relieve pain and symptoms allowing patients the opportunity to live out the end of their life as comfortable as possible.
